Welsh Harlequin Ducks
Welsh Harlequins are a wonderful duck to add to your flock if your looking for a great layer and setter. They originated from a mutation in a flock of Khaki Campbell's in Wales in 1949. They were selectively bred to create their colorings. They are great foragers and are said to be quieter than most other domesticated breeds. Though one of my girls is the loudest duck in our group. She has a very unique quack that almost sounds like she's laughing. They are calm and very inquisitive birds. It is also said that you can 90% of the time accurately sex them within the first couple of days after hatching. Darker bills are said to be male and lighter bills ending in a dark spot are normally females. This distinction fades away in a few days. Males get a darker chest and shiny green heads while hens stay a light cream.
